Clifden Racing Club.
There was a record attendance at thu annual i sices of tho above <»v Wednesday last, when line weather was experienced. - The iields were not up to their iisiuil strength, but some very interesting racing was witnessed. President C Gardner and his band of officials had a very busy time, while Secretary E. Matheson was at his usual pest. T. O'Connor, the well-known cross-country horseman, sustained a broken collar-bone
m the Orawia Hack Handicap Steeplechase, while m the Alton Trot A. O. Hodgson had Jiis ;ankle fractured thiough his horse falling. Mr A. D. ' Mclvor officiated as starter, and carried out his duties m a eredituble milliner. The Tuatapere Pipe Band was also m attendance, and rondered a good programe of music. President Gardner at a convenient interval, expressed the appreciation of the. members of the Club for their valuable assistance, 'after which enthusiastic cheers were given. The totalisator returns amounted to £5693, an increase of £l(J9l over last year, while the gate receipts were £218, a rise of £90 m excess of the previous- year.
