OPUNAKE CRICKET

WIN FOR KAPONGA HIGH SCORING GAME A non-competition game played at Opunake on Saturday resulted in a win for Kaponga by 265. runs to 194. The fielding and bowling was not as keen as is usually the case in competition games and the batsmen scored freely and quickly in both strikes.

Opunake batted first, wickets foiling as follows: 1 for 30, 2 for 60, 3 for .95 and 4 for 138. Runs continued to pile up steadily until the team was finally dismissed for 194, six batsmen reaching double figures with G. Snell (43) top scorer. Davies, who took 2 wickets for 50 runs off 17 overs, was the most consistent bowler.

Kaponga also opened briskly with 1 for 31, 2 for 50, 3 for 114, 4 for 125, and 5 for 163. The Bth wicket fell for 252 and the final score was 265. The visitors were forceful and punished loose bowling, five batsmen scoring over 30° with Cameron (54) top scorer. Somervell, Tito and Humphries were the most successful local bowlers.
