ROAD CYCLE RACE

TO-MORROW’S EVENT Shortly after lunch to-morrow, the first batch of “round the mountain” riders should reach Opunake and as usual, we respectfully request the residents of the town and district to assist the competitors in negotiating the main street without mishap. This can easily be accomplished by making certain that the main offender, the family watchdog, is safely tied up at home and secondly, that for a brief period all ears are parked in the - side streets -

This little consideration is sure ly an easy one for the public to accede to for nothing could be more galling for those taking part to cycle 40 miles of the journey only, to lose all interest in the event through the attentions of a stray dbg. Headers will remember that such an incident occurred at Upunake three years ago when practically every scratch man fell in the centre of this town, thus robbing the race of a great deal of interest aud completely nullifying ' the chances of a number of New Zealand’s foremost -cycle champions to win a coveted honour.

If the public will keep to the footpaths ou either side- of the road, an uninterrupted view will he enjoyed by everyone and we may rest Assured that such an cffort will earn the appreciation of every competitor and the officials responsible for the event.
