Death of Mr J. Dudley, Jan.
We regret to record the death of Mr Jack Dudley (son of Mr E. J. Dudley), which took place on Monday morning, at the residence of his parents. “ Broom,” Opunake. The deceased who was 21 years and 10 months of age, bad been ill for about two years, having caught a cold which brought on a severe attack of pleurisy, followed by its attendant complaints. He recovered for a time, and was able to go into the Wellington Hospital, where he got slight relief, and after a trip to Christchurch he returne d to Opunake. For some months he appeared comparatively well, but about teu weeks ago he had to take to his bed, where he has been ever siiace. The open air treatment has been applied, which has had the effect of lengthening bis days, but despite thot and the skill of Dr Morrison, consump - tion earned him off. The deceased was conscious up to the minute he died, and was always very hopeful of recovery. During the years he lived in the district he was recognised as a steady and hardworking young man, and bad the respect of old and young for his manly qualities. The parents have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement.
The funeral will leave his parents’ residence to-morrow, at 2 p.m. for the English Church, preceding from there to the cemetery. The parents return their sincere thanks to the many friends for their kindness during the illness of their son.
