School Entertainment at Rahotu.
At the entertainment in aid of the school prize fund, there was a crowded audience on Monday evening. The following programme was given, most of the items being encored :—Pianofort solo. Miss Walford ; song, " Gates of the West," Miss Penwarden ; song, " I owe ten dollars to O'Harvey," Mr M Simeon; instrumental duet, Miss and Master Rutherford ; song, "White Wings," Mr Brown ; song (in costume) " Caller Herrin'," Mrs Harrison; song, " Bridget O'Donohoe," Mr Brown; song, " Tit for Tat," Miss Simeon; song, "In Old Madrid," Miss Penwarden ; song, "The Wishing Cup," Miss Rutherford. The guessing competition caused considerable excitement, and was won by Mr Armstrong, of Oaonui, who guessed 290, the actual number being 287. Over 30 guesses were recorded, ranging from 120 to 1190. The room was cleared for dancing, which was indulged in with spirit for several hours.
