Waimate Road Board.

The monthly meeting was held on Friday, there being present—Messrs McKeown (Chairman), Borrie, Watson, McCarthy. Coxhead, Mudford, Henson, and Sheat. Bank balance, as per pass book, £230 ; less about £l5O rates to come in. .SPECIAL RATES. The Kiri road and the Mangawhero road special rates were confirmed. SUTHERLAND KOAD. Mr Sutherland waited upon the Board and requested that as the formation had been made about 14 chains further than the gravelling had been let, it should also be gravelled. It was decided to form the road as far as the cliff, and to give Mr Sutherland notice to remove his gate within fourteen days. manaia road. The foreman was instructed to have a dangerous piece of this road fenced. RATE DEFAULTERS. The County Clerk wrote asking why the County Council rate had not been collected, there being now £6OO outstanding. The Clerk said there was a sum of £l5O also due to this board. The Chairman said the rate was being yearly collected earlier, and if the request were complied with it would be a hardship on the settlers, Who are short of funds at this time of the year. The Treasuier agreed to a further loan of £53, but requires an additional rate of |d. Order for special rate made. AUROA ROAD LOANS. The Treasury provisionally agreed to the £9OO loan. f A. Proudlock wrote asking that the contractors for the metalling should be required to break the large boulders each day. Agreed to. SCRUBBING ALLOWANCES. Several allowances were made at Is per chain. SKEET ROAD. Clearing out of the drains to be dealt with next meeting. TENDERS. Messi'3 McKeown, Borrie, Henson, McCarthy were appointed to open tenders next Thursday. The following tenders were dealt with: —737, Skeet Road, 16 chains ditchiug.—Blackball, 27s per chain ; Rodgers and Julian (accepted), 12s. 738, Maugawhero road culvert and earthwork. —Christie and Co.—Culvert, 28 ; earthwork, Bd. Hughes—£2B and Chad wick and MacMahon—(Accepted), £23 10s and Gd. 739, Upper Manaia Road, gravelling 10 chains.—Two tenders received were considered too high, and the matter was referred to the foreman to enable him to find a place where the carting would be a shorter distance. KOKIRT ROAD. Mr McDonough waited upon the Board, and requested that something should be done to improve this road. ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were passed for payment:— G. McLean 15s; J. D. F.
