KAPONGA.
(FfiOM A CORRESPONDENT.) A to ial da' ce was held here iast Thursday to celeb) ale the " old settlers' re iision." This was tho fir t annual meeting, and it proved a great success. Never before was such a large Mimber of people gathered inKnpouga. About, 50 or 60 couples decked the floor in the different dances, and seemed to enjoy themsi Ives thoroughly. The arrangemade by the committee were all that could be desired for the comfort and convenience cf the visitois. The music (p'ano and violin) by Messrs Stevenson and Hulse (of Manaiaj was really first class. The refreshments also were all that couhl be desired in the way of niceties. The hall was tastefully decoiated with flags and ferns of all descriptions. Dancing commenced at 8 p.m., and lasted " till daylight did appear," when many " hip hip hooray's " were given to the committee as a meed of praise for their kindness in providing such an excellent entertainment. Last week gave us a taste of winter again. Hail fell on two or three* days, and rain fell almost continuously, completely topping all road work. This is a great pity, as there are miles of roads for which the money has been raised to metal them, and now they must be delayed. Several new buildings are in course of erection. Advance, Kaponga.
