Opunake, September 28

The yards were full, and most lines sold. Prices were as follow's :—Yearling heifers, £2 10s; 9 to 12 months, 32s 6d ; weaners, 24s to 89s; springing heifers, £5 10s to £7; dairy cows, £4 17s 6d to £5 10s ; store cows, £8 5s to £4 ; 18-month bull, £2 16s ; 2ytar steers, £8 6s. At Awatuna, on Monday, October 3rd, no young stock came forward. Springing heifers, £4 5s to £5 10s; backward heifers, £3 5s to £4; 2-year heifers, £3 ; dairy 'cows, £4 to £5 IDs. I held a clearing sale of Messrs Geary Bros dairy stock on the 28th September. Bidding was very brisk. Cow's made, £4 10s to £9; springing heifers, £5 10s to £6 15s; backward heifers, £4 to £4 10s; 15-month steers, 35s ; store cows, £8 to £3 TOs ; trap horse, £l4 10s : pigs, 12s to 17s. New Plymouth, October 6.

At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, the yards w’ere crow’ded, principally with young stock. Buyers mustered in full force, and there w'as a keen competition from start to finish, prices showing a slight advance upon the previous sale. Only five or six bead of young cattle were passed at the hammer, and these were all placed afterwards. Dairy cattle, as a whole, were a very medium lot, and prices were lower than for some time past. A nice line of ewes and lambs and also two pens of fat sheep were well competed for, and sold at very satisfactory rates. I quote small calves to 80s, good do. 38s, yearlings to 48$, 12 to 18-month mixed £2 14s, to 3-year steers, good £4 ss, 12‘to 18-month heifers £2 14s, heifers in calf to £3 11s 6d, springing do. £5 ss, store cows to £3los, springing do. £4 2s 6d to £6 12s 6d, fat do. £4 15s, ewes and lambs 15s, fat wethers 15s Id, fat wethers 15s Id, fat ewes 14s 9d.

The quality of the animals offered was not equal to those submitted at the previous sale. Pigs were at slightly lower values. At Opunake, on 2nd inst., we bad a good entry. Bidding was slack, yet we succeeded in quitting most lines offered. At Kakaramea, on Ith, there was a good muster of stock, and a good attendance of buyers. Every pen was disposed of at or after the auction.
