Taranaki Education Board.

The Board met on Wednesday. Present—Miss Hey wood, Messrs Bauchope (chairman), Teed, Faull, Allsworth, Mackay, Adlam, Ambury, and Wade. architect's report. The Architect’s report was read. It referred principally to repairs, &c., that had been completed. ALBERT ROAD. Mr C. A. Rogers’ resignation of the Albert Road School was received and accepted. TEMPTORARY. The action of the Chairman in appointing Mr Cattley temptorary assistant teacher at Opunake at a salary of £2 per week and coach fare was confirmed. HOLIDAY* QUESTION. The question raised by the Town Committee asking that power be given Committees to fix holidays came up for discussion. A deputation from the Town Committee, consisting of M essrs W. A. Collis (chairman) and Carthew, waited on the Board to urge that additional power should be granted. Correspondence from Committees on the subject was also read. —After discussion, Mr Mackay moved, That this Board sees no sufficient reason for changing its regulations in regard to holidays, as its regulations have so far been found to give satisfaction ; but that the Board will at all times, as hitherto, be ready to act as far as possible in harmony with the School Committees whenever any emergency in connection with a special holiday shall arise .—Seconded by Mr Allsworth and carried. GENERAL SCHOOL. Miss Alice Evans was appointed fourth assistant teacher in the Central School. OPUNAKE. Miss E. Lorimer was appointed assistant mistress at Opunake, the appointment to date on reporting to the Chairman her arrival, which is not to be later than October 1. OKATO. It was decided to appoint a pupil teacher at Okato, to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of - Miss Eustace. TRAVELLING EXPENSES. Mr Mackay moved, “ That in future members’ travelling expenses be paid at the rate of 6d per mile per meeting, with a minimum of 10s. a;pd a maximum of £l.” Seconded by Mr Allsworth, and carried. Mr Allsworth moved, and Mr Wade seconded, “ That the above resolution should not take effect till March 31, 1895.” The motion was carried on division. Ayes (5), Miss Hcywood, Messrs Adlam, Wade, Allsworth, and Ambury. Noes (8), Messrs Mackay, Faull, and Chairman. CAPITATION. Mr Faull moved, “ That the Board finds after trial that it cannot continue the 10 per cent lately added to the capitation of school committees, and that after the close of the present quarter on September 30, that the capitation be paid on the original scale. Seconded by Mr Wade, and carried. . ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £7B 4s lid were passed.—Herald.
