Mr W. D. Scott's Stock Report. Opunake, August 7. I held my usual monthly sale at the Opunake yards on Friday, the 80th inst., when a large quantity of stock came forward, every available space being occupied. There was a good demand for dairy stock, also for young stuff. I sold at the Awatuna jards yesterday, the entries being better than usual; with the exception of a few cows every line yarded was sold. I quote prices as follow : Opunake.—Calves, 22s to 235; 9 to 12-months, 31s 6d to 89s 64; yearlings, £2 4s to £2 ss; 16-month steers, £2 7s to £2 13s; 15-month heifers, £2 15s; dairy cows, £5 3s 61 to £6 12s 6d; cows and calves, £4 ; springing heifers (forward), £4 14s 6d to £5 10s ; backward, £3 5s to £3 17s ; shorthorn bull, £6 ; working bullocks, £l3 pair. Awatuna.—Dairy cows, £4 16a to £6 ; 3-year heifers, £5 ; 2-yea.r heifers, £3 ; backward heifers, £3 2s 6d to £S 15s ; mixed yearlings. £2 2s fid. Messrs Nolan, Tonke ai&d Co.’s Stock Report. Hawera, Aujgust 2.. Our usual fortnightly stock sale at E Itham was held on 81st ult. There was a large entry, and fair prices were realised. On Ist inst. we held an unreserved clearing sale of dairy stock,, &c., on account of Mr George Moir. The quality of stock was good. There was keen competition, resulting in the cows and heifers averaging £6 12s fid; 2-year heifers, £4 2s fid. At Hawera, on 2nd inst., there was an unusually heavy muster of both cattle and sheep. Bidding was slack throughout, yet we succeeded in placing a large majority before leaving the yards. We quote—At Eltham: Weaners, 29s to 355; yearlings, £2 2s to £2 6s; 2-year heifers, £8 to £3 3s ; springers, £4 10s to £6; dairy cows, £5 to £6 10s; dairy cows (on account of Mr Millar), £5 15s to £7. At Hawera. —Weaners, 85s to £2 2s ; yearlings, £2 10s; 2-year steers, £3 5s to £8 7s 6d ; 2i-year steers, £4 5s ; 3-year bullocks, £4 17s to £5 12s 6d; 2-year heifers, £2 18s to £8 ; 2-J----year heifers, £3 7s fid; springers, £4 8s to £4 15s; dairy cows, £5 15s to £6 10s; store cows, £3 to £3 2s fid. Sheep; Lambs, 5s 9d to fis 6d; cmlls, 2s 6d to 4s Id ; wethers, 9s 3d; ewes, in lamb, 8s to 10s.
Mr Newton King’s Weekly Report. New Plymouth, August 2. Cattle.—Mr Mackie’s special sale of dairy stock at the Stratford jards on Friday last was numerously attended. Bidding was keen, and it was a capital sale, prices being very satisfactory, anything good making from £6 to £8 7s 6d. . , At Rahotu, on Wednesday, the yards were well filled with nice stock, most of them being sold at or after the auction. Bidding opened quietly, but improved later on. Calves made 80s to 35s ; calves to yearlings, £2 2a to £2 10s ; cows, springing, £4 5s to £5 ; backward, £3 10s to £4 ; fat cows, £4 8s 6d ; 15 to 18-month, £2 12s to £2 19s ; bullocks, £4. Land.—l sold a portion of the late . Geo. Oliver’s farm on Saturday to Mr Thomas Cook; one part only now remains, and at the price should be snapped up. Messrs Hunter and Nolan’s Report Auckland, August 2. Horses. —Dullness has characterised the market. The number brought forward has not been large, of an inferior stamp, and there has been little or no alteration in value, but there remained an unsatisfied demand, for those of a good stamp in all classes. Hacks, from £4 to £l4 ; light harness, from £5 to £l2 10s ; medium draughty £7 5s to £l4 15s ; heavy draught, £l2 to, £2l 10s. Cattle—An increased number have been brought forward. A steady demand has existed, and there has been little or no iteration in value. An average number were yarded at PajJftkura on Wednesday. There was §bod competition at both sales. Ox beef ranged from 20s to 23s lOOIhs; cow, from 19s to 20s; dairy cows, from £4 os to £7 10s each; calves, from 16s to 28s; yearling steers, 25s to 40s; 18-month steers, £2 2s 6d to £2 10s; 2-year steers, £3 to £8 15s; grown steers, £4 to £5 ss; 18-month to 2-fear heifers, £1 15s to £3; dry cows, £2 to £3 10s. Some averages of fat steers were—£9 19s Bd, £9 16s Bd, £Blßs 2d, £7 19s 6d, £7 12s 4d, £7 Bs, £-7 Is 6d, £6 14s 8d ; cows—£7 Is 6d, £6 7s 6d, £5 15s, £5 ss, £5 4s 2d, £6. Sheep.—Wethers sold at from 9s 9d to 16s 9d; ewes, 9s 8d to 15s 9d; store wethers, 10s •, ewes, Bs, hoggets, 6s 6d to 8s 6d. Pigs.—'More numerous; sold freely at the previous weeks’s values. Banners, £1 17s to £2 15s; porkers, 18s to o2s 6;1; wo-mors, 5s to 11s 6d.
