Opunake School Commissioners.
The first meetiDg of the above was held on Friday evening, August 3rd. Present—Messrs D. McGregor, Guy, O'Brien. Raikes, and Clare. Proposed by Mr O'Brien, seconded by Mr Clare, That Mr Raikes be chairman for tbe ensuing year. Carried. Mr Raikes said he tbanked them for tbe honour, and if it •would be tbe means of settling the little differences and bickerings of the past, he would undertake the duties and do his best to further the interests of the school. Mr McGregor moved, That Mr Guy be appointed secretary. Mr Clare proposed Mr O'Brien as secretary. Mr Raikes seconded the motion, which was carried. The minutes of the previous meeting were then read. Mr McGregor moved, and Mr Guy seconded, That the motion contained in the last minutes authorising a refund to Mr McHardy of 5s 6d, pound fees on a horse of his which escaped from the school paddock owing to defective fencing, be rescinded. Carried. The minutes as amended, were then confirmed. CORSE SPONDENCE. From the Education Board, notifying Miss Grainger's resignation, to take effect from 15th August; and that Messrs Newman, Raikes, Scott, and Clare were appointed Commissiners. Proposed by Mr McGregor, and secouded by Mr Raikes, That the Board be thanked for its courtesy in getting over the difficulty by appointing further Commissioners. Carried. From the Chairman of the New Plymouth School Committee, asking their opinion as to whether they thought the specifying of holidays should not be in the hands of the local committees. Proposed by Mr McGregor, and seconded by Mr Guy, That this committee is of. opinion that the granting of holdays should be- in tbe hands of the local committees, and that the secretary write to the Board requesting their consent to the alteration. From the Board, enclosing £1 18s 4d capital ion money for quarter. The balance-sheet for the past year was read :
£24 10 10 Th 6 following accounts were passed for payment:—Mrs Peacock, £2 ss; W. Pettigrew, Is lOd; Phillips, £2 17s lOd. The Secretary informed the committee that the contract for school cleaning had expired. Proposed by Mr McGregor and seconded by Mr Clare, That the secretary call for tenders for school cleaning ; tenders to close on Friday, 9th August, and that the Chairman and Secretary deal with same.—Carried. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Guy, seconded by Mr Raikes, That the Secretary and Mr McGregor sign cheques. Resolved, That all the commissioners visit the school on Wednesday next, at 3 p.m., and inspect the grounds, &c. Resolved, on the motion of Mr McGregor, seconded by Mr Guy, That ordinary meetings be held on the Mondays nearest the full moon. Meeting adjourned.
