RAHOTU.
♦ (Our Own Correspondent.)
With surprise, I saw teams repairing the main road with metal on Monday last. Considering the continual rain on Saturday, and the holes in the roads filled with water, it looked like making many holes by carting metal to fill others. Why should not cartiug be delayed when the road is so saturated ? I daresay the contractor is desirous of putting on the complement of metal as soon as possible, but the consideration of wearing out the road when in such a state should also be considered. I hear that Miss Simeon has returned from New Plymouth in better health. Mr Prenter still keeps up to time with his coach, but the bridges are not going to be erected for his convenience or ours for some time. The Heimama was to be completed within three months from signing of tender. The said tender was accepted on the 2nd of April last (I believe), and now it is the sth of July. Three months have elapsed, and if it will take three months to complete it—that was the time allowed by the Council —we may reasonably expect it opened by next Christmas in time for New Year's races at Opua. Mr Swiunertoii is complaining of the difficulty experienced in getting timber to finish building his store. More anon.
