The Porte's Note appealing tor mediation intimates that she is willing to
cede Tripoli to Italy on certain con-
ditions.
Rome, October 9,
The bombardment of Tripoli opened with 12-inch guns at a range of seven and a-balf miles. .
The Turks' Krupp gjns were useless beyond five and a-halt miles.
Bedouin cavalry nightly scour the outskirts of Tripoli, hoping to attract the Italians towards the Turkish entrenched camp, but the Italian shells disperse them. ■>
The Italian commander at Tripoli offers the inhabitants 10 francs apiece lor rifles surrendered on the first day and five francs on the second day, with a penalty ot death ior non-compliance with the order.
The Italian Governor has issued a proclamation abolishing slavery. The Arabs are looting the abandoned premises. Groups of Turkish soldiery, as well as Arabs, are returning to Tripoli and surrendering to the Italians. It is stated that 20,000 inhabitants, who fled in s state of starvation, are expected to return to Tripoli. Reports of serious dissensions between the Turks and Arabs are confirmed.
