CONVINCING WIN

Randolph Turpin Claimant For Empire Title NZPA—Copyright ' LONDON, Dec. 13. The British middle-weight champion, Randolph Turpin, proved himself a serious rival for the Australian Dave Sands’s Empire title when he convincingly beat the American Tommy Yarosz at Harringay last night. Yarosz was disqualified for persistent holding in the eighth round, but earlier had been battered by the Englishman. In the first round Turpin had Yarosz on the floor, the bell saving him from a knock-out after the count had reached five. Again in the eighth round Yarosz was at Turpin’* mercy. Yarosz outpointed Sands in London in April, 1949.
