QUIET IN SINGAPORE
Curfew To Be Maintained RIOTING DEATH ROLL NOW SEVENTEEN NZPA —Reuter—Copyright Rec. 0.50 a.m. SINGAPORE, Dec. 14. All was quiet in Singapore today, but the curfew has been ordered again for tonight. Concentrations of police and troops were still standing by at various points in the city. Most private and Government offices opened their doors and traffic was thick in the streets. * The Royal Air Force warrant officer who was battered by rioters on Monday died today in hospital, bringing the European death roll to six and the total of all races to 17. Several people admitted to hospitals today had been injured on Monday or Tuesday, but had been frightened to leave their homes before to get medical aid. The total casualties of all races handled by the hospitals was about 200. After a few clashes in the city yesterday morning the day passed without further incident. The 1 RAF helicopter was constantly over the city checking that no mobs were forming. After the curfew army scout cars and Bren Gun carriers patrolled silent streets. Mr. W. L. Blythe, Colonial Secretary, said over Radio Malaya that the situation was now well under control.
