WORK OF HERITAGE

Annual Meeting Of Otago Branch

The executive and visiting subcommittees had successfully met the requirements of the . children under their care and their families, stated the president of Heritage (Otago), Mr C. W. Birch, in the report adopted at the annual meeting of the movement yesterday. There was a total of 280 children under the age of 21 on the branch register, and in addition, the branch, in some special cases assisted financially a number who were over 21. The report said that the period of most pressing financial need was commencing, for the great majority of the children were approaching the' secondary school age. An increased number of commitments for educational purposes had been undertaken for next year and it was estimated that the expenditure on direct assistance would be increased. The membership stood at 1210 and a survey Was being made of new arrivals to the city in order that their interest might be enlisted in the branch. “I do not think we have ever received a rebuff from people to whom we have appealed for assistance,” said Mr Birch.
