FIVE SALES EFFECTED

Considerable interest was centred in the shares of Woolworths, Ltd., yesterday, and buyers and sellers were very evenly matched on both the morning and afternoon call on the Stock Exchange. Several deals took place on the earlier session, all at 355, and the quotation closed with buyers and sellers separated by only Id, with the “ have-nots " offering 34s lid and vendors asking the sale price. The afternoon bids were more nominal, but substantially unchanged, with buyers offering 34s 9d and sellers asking 35s 3d. The shares of the New Zealand chain had high buyers in the morning at 29s 6d (sellers 30s), but there was a change of heart in the afternoon, when sellers appeared at 29s 6d, with buyers standing lower at 2Ss.

Kaitangata Coal shares were “ spec ' sold at 245, and the market was clear of sellers in the afternoon. Developments are expected for the vacation. P. and O. stock sold firm, with a reported deal at 595, but the more popular sterling vehicles, Union Banks and Bank of Australasia shares, were easier on the sales and quotations.
