MARSHALL AID TO BRITAIN
Compromise Reported
NZPA—Copyright Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 13. An agreement on the future of Marshall Aid to Britain has been reached as the result of negotiations which have taken place in London between the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Hugh Gaitskell, and Mr William Batt, head of the United States Economic Co-operation Administration mission to Britain, says the Financial Times. . , Mr Gaitskell is expected to announce the terms of the agreement in the House of Commons today. There has been recent pressure in Washington to suspend British Marshall Aid altogether but members of the United States Administration realised that such a'step would react unfavourably on European reconstruction and rearmament. The terms now reached are expected to be a compromise.
