Smart’ Beginner White Robe made a splendid beginning in the Hydro Handicap at Beaumont and she had a good break on the field with half the journey covered. When Glenlivet ran up to her in the straight it looked as though he would win but the Sir Galloway filly fought on well to hold the Invercargill galloper off by the narrowest of margins. With more age on her side White Robe should gather Stamina and she is likely to develop into a very useful performer.
