VISIT TO DUNEDIN
Prominent Industrial Scientist OTAGO GRADUATE A prominent industrial scientist from South Africa, Dr P. C. Carmen, who is also a graduate of the University of Otago, will visit Dunedin at the beginning of next academic year. Dr Carmen came from Invercargill to graduate M.Sc. at Otago University, and went to the University of London with a scholarship. At the latter university, he gained a doctorate in science. He then went to South Africa and held a lectureship in industrial chemistry at the University of Cape Town for a number of years. At the present time, he is working for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in Pretoria. Dr Carmen will visit Invercargill again while he is on leave in the Dominion. At the University of Otago, Dr Carmen will give a short series of lectures on his work. He has published a book on the chemical constitution and properties of engineering materials. He recently returned to South Africa from a tour of the United States.
