Junior Tennis Shield
Both Otago junior tennis teams were in action last Saturday, the boys successfully and the girls unsuccessfully. The boys’ Slazenger Shield team must be considered a very strong combination and should have a reasonable chance of success against Canterbury for the South Island final, comments “Volley,” the Daily Times lawn tennis writer. D. Duff, D. Shaw, and D. Higgs are playing well and won their matches comparatively easily. M. Cox had to battle much harder for his success, but gave a fine fighting performance in one of his recoveries. With intensive practise, Cox could still further strengthen his game. It was very unfortunate for the Howe Shield team that Sonia Cox did not make the journey to Oamaru, as there can be little doubt thht had she played for Otago the result would have been different. There ..is no desire to detract from the performances of the North Otago girls. They played well and fully deserved their win. The fact still remains, however, that in Miss Cox's absence the Otago girls were all playing one place above their normal positions.
