Chinese Communists Demand Removal Of Nationalists From United Nations Bodies

NZPA—Copyright Rec. 11 p.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 4. Mr Trygve Lie, Secretary-general of the United Nations, stated today that a message had been received from the Peiping Government demanding that the Chinese Nationalists be removed from all bodies of the United Nations. The message said Chi Cho-ting had been appointed as representative to the Economic and Social Council, which meets on Tuesday, and asked when Chi would be accepted to replace the Nationalist representative. Mr Lie said the telegram would be circulated to all members, but no further step would be taken by him. Mr Lie said he* believed a way must and would soon be found to settle the question of Chinese representation. The New York Herald Tribune, in a report publisned today, said Nationalist China yesterday told the United Nations in a closed meeting

that it would veto any attempt to turn over the Chinese seats in the Security Council to delegates from Communist China. Dr Shushi Hsu, alternate Chinese Nationalist Security Council delegate, served notice to the Experts Committee of the Security Council. He said the use of the veto would automatically pass the Chinese problem to the 59-Nahon General Assembly. Recognition of Indo-China A London message says Hungary, Poland, Rumania, and Czechoslovakia have decided to establish diplomatic relations with the Ho Chi-minh Communist Government in Indo-China. A Paris report sayk the British Foreign Secretary, Mr Ernest Bevin, promised the Acting French Foreign Minister, M. Pierre Schneiter, that Britain will soon recognise the Frenchsponsored Bao Dai regime in Viet Nam.
