MANIOTOTO Special to the Daily Times RANFURLY, Dec. 18. Although the weather on Saturday morning gave promise of being pleasant for the continuation of sports competition, rain commencing at mid-day caused manv postponements of tennis and cricket matches. This makes the fourth successive Saturday on which sports fixtures have been marred by rain—a very unusual happening for summer sports in Central Otago. Matches were played at Patearoa, Paerau and Middlemarch, but at all other centres the rain was sufficiently heavy to cause postponements of tennis and cricket. CRICKET The Patearoa A-Becks match played at Patearoa was the only cricket fixture to be commenced. The other three fixtures were abandoned without a ball being bowled and therefore will be played at Batting first Patearoa A made 181 (J, W. Blakely 75, H. McSkimming 25, and B. Greer 27). Bowling for Becks, Vuglar performed very well to take four for 34. The other wickets were taken by T. Mee (three for 61), Jones (one for 28), and McEntee (two for 34). Patearoa dismissed Becks for 75 to score a comfortable win (T. Mee 22, H. Swinney 17). Bowling for Patearoa R. Carr (one for 4), J. W. Blakely (five for 15) and D. Andrews (four for 14) all finished with good figures. TENNIS Tlie results of the only tennis matches completed were:— B Grade.—Patearoa B, 11 sets 105 games, beat Kokonga, 5 sets 83 games.
