AWAMOKO SPORTS

Successful Meeting

The twentieth annual sports meeting of the* Awamoko Sports Club was held on Saturday under ideal conditions. There was a large attendance of spectators, and the club’s efforts were well set out. The keen sport kept the full interest of the spectators to the last. Amongst those present were Mr W. A. McPherson (secretary of the Otago Centre), Mr H. J. Horrell (secretary of the Piping and Dancing Association) and Mr A. T. Hansen (president of the Otago Centre). Mr J. Campbell (Oamaru) judged the piping, and Mrs Orma Smith (Timaru), the Highland dancing. The president of the Awamoko Sports Club, Mr E. O. Strachan, thanked the public for their attendance and support, and Mrs J. D. McLeod presented the cup given by Messrs J. King and R. J. Elliott to W. J. Whiston, winner of the J. D. McLeod Memorial Cycling Race. Whiston rode a lap of honour, and received a great ovation. Results of events were:—
