EXPORT LAMBS

Competition Draws Even Line

Fifty-six entries of pens of three lambs were received for the district export lamb competition held at the Waitaki Farmers’ Freezing Company’s works on Thursday. A good attendance of fanners and others watched the judging of an exceptionally even line of lambs. The pens of three lambs as originally grouped were judged on the hoof and later on the hooks. From the two pens entered by each farmer a selection was made for the seven pens to represent the district in the judging at Smithfield. In addition, the best individual lamb was selected from the entries submitted. Results were:— On the hoof (judge, Mr W. Murray, Milton). —Paton Bros., pen 42, 1; w. Malcolm, pen 4,2; N. R. Verity, pen 29, 3. Before announcing the placings in this class the weight on the hooks of these lambs was ascertained and J. H. Pollock's pen, which had been placed first on the hoof, was disqualified as being overweight. Judged on Hooks (judge, Mr W. Lennox, Timaru).—W. Malcolm, pen 4,1; Paton Bros., pen 41. 2; D. E. Paton, pen 48, 3. Best individual lambs: A. McLeod 1, D. Malcolm 2. Paton Bros. 3. . Pens selected for district competition in order of merit: D. Malcolm 1, D. E. Paton 2, C. F. Wedge 3, Paton Bros. 4, W. Malcolm 5, N. R. Verity 6, G. T. Gillies 7. Luncheon and afternoon tea was supplied by the management of the Waitaki Farmers’ Freezing Company.
