ANNUAL MEETING
INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS At the annual meeting of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects the chairman, Mr J. H. White, referred to the annual conference of the institute, which was held in Dunedin early in the year, and which did much, he said, to strengthen the bonds of fellowship in the profession. This was demonstrated by the branch’s offer to the city for a combined effort for the royal visit decorations. He said there was an increasing tendency for the public to turn to the profession for guidance on matters of civic importance, such as town planning. He commented on the branch’s efforts in the diversion of the Leith and the Civic Centre, and added that the branch maintained a valued connection with the Otago Art Society. Mr White stated that most architects would welcome the easing of building controls now that certain building materials were in better supply. He hoped to see a considerable amount of projected work proceeded with in the coming year. After a general discussion, the motion was carried. Office-bearers for the year were elected as follows:—Chairman, Mr J. H. White; secretary, Mr J. D. Allingham; librarian, Mr C. G. Dunning.
