ROAD CYCLING

CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS P.A. PALMERSTON N., Oct. 17. The New Zealand Senior Road Cycling Championship, held on Saturday, was won by A. S. Mobberley, a West Coast rider in the time of shr 29min 4 4-ssec., L. Griffiths, of Auckland, was second, his time being shr 29min ssec. S. Howes, of Wellington, was third. He took shr 29min 5 l-ssec, and V. Westbury, of Wellington, who was fourth, took shr 29min 5 2-3 sec. There were 15 starters for the distance of 100 miles.

In the initial stages, the race was rather a farce, the riders taking their time in a bunch. So slow did they travel that ordinary cyclists were able to keep abreast of them. This continued until the eighteenth lap was reached. The Junior Championship, of 25 miles, was won by B. G. Grant, of Auckland, in lhr Bmin 24 l-ssec. Other placings were: R. B. Hodgkinson (Auckland, lhr Bmin 24 3-ssec) 2, J. Murray (Wellington, lhr Bmin 24 3-ssec) 3, G. Howes (Wellington, lhr Bmin 24 4-ssec.) 4.
