Successful Ribbon Parade

A successful ribbon parade was held by the North Otago Kennel Club on Saturday, the function taking place in Messrs Bruce Christie’s showroom instead of Takaro Park, because of the threatening weather. The judges were Dr A. Smith Morton and Mr S. Browne. The highest honours were taken by J. and H. Keir’s Winstone Mara, which won the Grand Challenge, Limit, Open and Sporting Stakes, and first awards for limit dogs, open dogs, and colonial bred dog in cocker spaniels: The second award in the Grand Challenge Stakes went to the same owners’ Torment of Birkdale, which also won first awards in open bitches and colonial bred cocker spaniels. Third place in the challenge went to Miss Joy Reid’s Glendale Pluto, which was third in the limit stakes, second in open and sporting stakes, second in novice dogs and colonial bred, and third in limit and open dogs for cocker spaniels. The fourth challenge award was taken by Ray Chalmers’s Golden Heir of Mowbray, which was third in the novice and sporting stakes, first in the dog puppy under six months and second under 12 months in cocker spaniels. Other awards in cocker spaniels included Miss Mathie’s Judith of Mowbray, first puppy upder six months, second in limit bitches, and third under 12 months, novice, and puppy stakes; J. and H. Keir’s Winstone Marcia, first in puppy under 12 months, novice, limit bitches, puppy and novice stakes;' Mi's King’s Amber of Golden West, first in puppies under 12 months, and novice, and second in limit and open dogs, and puppy novice, and limit stakes. Stuart Woodley’s Lassie, second in puppies under six months; Mrs D. Spark’s Chelwin Judith, second in puppies under 12 months, and novice bitches; Bevan Ormandy’s Chase, third in puppies under 12 months and novice dogs; E. Holmes’s Maraware Leading Lady, third in limit and second in open bitches. In black cocker spaniels, H. E. Lowens gained four firsts with Ronnie; in golden retrievers, Jenifer Hastie gained three firsts and a third in the open stakes with Kerry, and in collies Norman Docherty two firsts and a first in non-sporting stakes with Joe. W. A. Hansen swept the pool in smooth terriers, taking four first awards and a first in the terrier stakes with Springlen Special, a first with Bonnie Rosita, and a second with Nip. In Pommeranians Joy Nightingale’s Peter and Patricia Nightingale’s Blondie gained first in opposite sexes, the toy stakes being Blondie first and Peter second: D. Hearn gained a second award with Nigger.
