Pitoitoi Favoured In Desert Gold Stakes
Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, Oct. 14.
About an inch of rain fell at Trentham between Wednesday night and noon today, but the weather then cleared, and unless there is further rain the track should be in good order for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club’s spring meeting at Trentham on Saturday. Provision has been made for two divisions in the Wellesley Stakes, but there are several doubtful starters, and it is unlikely that the event will be divided. Scratchings are:—Diana Reynard (Wainui Handicap), Beeswax (D.esert Gold Stakes), Harleyholm (Rimutaka Handicap). Landfire (Wellington Handicap), Lord Latour and Legendre (October Handicap). Doubtful starters include Baksoon, Kelmont. Ruling Moment, and Knight Crusader (Glen Hurdles); Joyful Lady and Memento (Desert Gold Stakes); Finigin, Beckon and Robert Emmett (Rimutaka Handicap); Master Broie, Addition and Princess Irene (Wellesley Stakes): and Oban (Shorts Handicap). The horses in favour include:— 11.0: Glen Hurdles.—Detain, Pride of Mossburn, Griffin. 11.45: Wainui Handicap.—Sweet Nymph. Demonic, Winter Sweet. 12.35: Desert Gold Stakes.—Pitoitoi, Champagne, Curtana. 1.25: Rimutaka Hack Handicap—Super, Deseado Outlook. , , 2.15: Wellington Handicap.—Liebestraum. Royal Tan, Coral Arc. 3.5: Wellesley Stakes.—Trinidad. His Lordship, Super Snipe. 3.55: Shorts Handicap.—False Step. Da Vinci, Citril. 4.45: October Hack Handicap—Pierre. Irresistible, Buchanan.
