£9OOO In Stakes For Dunedin Cup Meeting

The programme for the Dunedin Cup meeting, to be held on Monday v and Tuesday, December 27 and 28, 1948, was drawn up at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Jockey Club yesterday, with a stakes distribution of £9OOO. Entries will be taken on Tuesday, Deceinber 14, with handicaps for the first day declared on Monday, December 20, and first day acceptances on'Tuesday, December 21. The meeting was attended by Messrs L. C. Hazlett (chairman), C. N. Draper, A. Clark, K. Clark, W. H. Elliott. W. Greenfield, W. Garrett, D. M. Reid. A. N. Smith, R. W. Wilson and Dr E. R. Harty. Applications for the use of the racecourse were granted as follows: —Wingatui Sports Club, for euchre evenings; and for the annual picnics of High Street School on November * 27, North-East Valley School on December 4, Butchers’ Union January 15, 1949, A. and T. Burt, Ltd., on February 5, and Anderson’s Bay School on February 12. The Melbourne Racing Club advised of the merger of the Williamstown Racing C'ub and the Victorian Trotting and Racing Association under the name of the Melbourne Racing Club. The use of the Wingatui racecourse for a bloodstock sale on Friday, February 25, being the day before the opening of the autumn meeting was granted. It was reported that a final report was being submitted by the architect following the committee's decision to install the " photo-chart ” system of race finishes at Wingatui. District Committee The monthly meeting of the Dunedin District Committee was attended by Messrs L. C. Hazlett (chairman) C. N. Draper, J. N. Murdoch, W. Garrett and A. N. Smith. The New Zealand Racing Conference notified the grant of the following liconses, as recommended by the committee:— Amateur rider, D. E. Munro; apprentice jockeys, J. A. Bremner (for apprentice races only up to and including October 24), and N. H. Ellis (for Apprentice races only up to and including November 19).
