THE LIGHTER SIDE
CENTENNIAL INDUSTRIES FAIR SOME NOVEL EXHIBITS Together with its more serious side, the Centennial Industries Fair, which will be held in Dunedin from September 15 to September 25, will cater for the amusement of patrons. Fun-loving visitors will welcome the reappearance of the “ Ghost Train,” which' will be a feature of the lighter side of the fair.
This exhibit made its first appearance in Dunedin at the New Zealand Industries Fair in 1944, and has not been here since. Arrangements have been made by the Otago-Southland Manufacturers’ Association for a team of “ station masters ” and other operatives to come to Dunedin and install the train in a special house at the fair which is now being prepared for it. Those people who have not yet had experience of the Ghost Train will find riding in it an amusing experience. Over 50,000 patronised it when it was last in the city. The trip by the train has been extended slightly for this occasion, and all the equipment is in first-class order so that there will be no risk attaching to the intriguing and unusual encounters on the journey of about two minutes. Electrically-run, the train comprises a number of small cars shaped like engines, and the thrills of the trip will more than compensate for any slight timidity young people might have about undertaking it. Those citizens who enjoy acquiring samples of various products will have the opportunity at the fair to gather a number of interesting articles and to buy odds and ends which are not normally available. Children, too, will be particularly well catered for by way of special treats.
