WORKERS REBUFFED

CHARGE AGAINST MR SEMPLE P.A. AUCKLAND, Aug. 17. Because of rebuffs and the belief that the Minister of 'Railways, Mr Semple, has little sympathy with their viewpoint, the members of the Otahuhu railway, workshops branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, at a meeting last night, strongly criticised the Minister’s actions. They adopted a resolution thanking Mr R, Macdonald, M.P. for Ponsonby, for expressing the railway workers' viewpoint on worker participation in the control of industry.

To-day, Mr W. D. M. McCallum, vice-president of the Otahuhu branch, said Mr Semple’s refusal to give the workers a real say in their own industry was in marked contrast with the attitude of the Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, who had stated recently that the Parliamentary Labour Party caucus approved ’ the principle. Apparently Mr Semple did not feel bound by the caucus decision.
