MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union was held last night, the president, Mr R. W. S. Botting, occupying the chair. ' Train Arrangements The district traffic manager, Mr S. G. Howie, advised in connection with Ranfurly Shield matches that the. department had made arrangements for the through express leaving Dunedin for Invercargill at 4.40 p.m. to stop at Caversham to pick up passengers. This train would be due to leave Caversham at 4.45 p.m. and to ensure that patrons could witness the whole of the match and reach Caversham in time to join the train, he suggested that the matches should commence not later than 2.45 p.m. each Saturday. The union decided to start the matches against South Canterbury on July 24 and against Southland on July 31 at 2.45 p.m. Visit of Nelson Team The Nelson Union, advised that Its team to play the Otago Combined Sub-unions’ team on September 21 at a centre to be decided upon would arrive in Dunedin from Invercargill on September 20. . It would consist of 22 players, a coach, and manager.—Noted. Junior Representative Matches The following programme of junior re§resentative matches was approved:— ecdnd Grade—v. Southland, at Invercargill, August 7; v. Canterbury, at Christchurch. on September 18. Third Grade.—v. Southland, at Dunedin. July 31; v. North Otago, at Oamaru, August 7. Fourth Grade.—v. South Otago, at Dunedin, and v. Maniototo, at Ranfurly, date to be arranged. Fifth Grade.—v. North Otago, at Oamaru, August 7. The meeting approved of a proposal to send a junior representative team, or.such other Second Grade team as may be selected to Palmerston to play the Eastern District Sub-union’s senior representative side on July 17. School Matches King’s High School was granted permission to play matches as under:—Sec-' ond fifteen v. South Otago High School, at Balclutha, August 11. and junior team v. Palmerston District High School, at Palmerston, on July 21. The Macandrew Intermediate School was granted permission to play senior (under 8 stone) and junior (under 6st 71b) matches against Tweedsmuir Intermediate School, Invercargill, on Friday, July 23, the junior game to be played at Bathgate Park and the senior game at Tonga Park. The Primary Schools’ Rugby Committee was granted permission to play the B Grade match (6st 71b and under) Otago Schools v. Southland Schools, at Bathgate Park on the morning of Saturday, July 31. The committee was also grantedthe use of Bathgate Park on July 20 and 22 (afternoons) and July 24 (morning) for the playing of a series of trial matches with country teams. Representative Referees The Referees' Appointment Board submitted the names of the following referees, in order of merit, for representative matches to which they may be appointed by the New Zealand Union:— Messrs T. Tsukigawa, J. Frood, J. Garthwaite, L. A. Giles and J. D. Walker. It was decided to forward the names to the New Zealand Union. Managers Appointed Mr B. Collie was appointed manager of the Otago representative team to play Southland at Invercargill on August 7, and Mr D. Palmer was appointed manager of the Otago junior team to play the Southland junior team at Invercargill on the same date. General After a discussion it was decided to play the Pirates-Southern match as the main game at Carlsbrook on Saturday, and the North Otago-Otago Combined Sub-unions match as the curtain raiser. The Alhambra Club wa’s granted permission to play the Star Club (Invercargill) at Opoho at 10.30 a.m. on July 31. v It was decided to play a match between the Dunedin and Celtic (Timaru) senior teams as the curtain raiser to the Ranfurly Shield match between Otago and South Canterbury at Carlsbrook on July 24. . , . W. S. McNeil was granted a transfer from the Collegiate Club (Invercargill) to the Pirates Club.
