ORANGES SOON
SHIPMENT FROM AUSTRALIA NO LEMONS OR BANANAS The Waitaki was Scheduled to leave Melbourne yesterday and is due at Dunedin early next week with a large shipment of navel oranges. The first shipment last year did not arrive until July, and, with the earlier beginning this season it is expected that larger supplies will come forward than were received last year. No lemons are available, and it is some time since the last shipment arrived in Dunedin. No advice has been received about any further shipments of bananas. Tree tomatoes and Chinese gooseberries are fairly plentiful at present. Passionfruit are still scarce, with prices high. Hothouse tomatoes are selling well, but outside-grown are practically unsaleable unless of choice quality. New season’s poorman oranges are being quoted from the north, whence supplies will soon be available. Heavy supplies of cauliflower are coming forward, and the market is easy. Cabbage are still short of requirements, and rationing is again the practice. Swedes and carrots are plentiful. Parsnips are inclined to be scarce. Marrows are in heavy supply. A shipment of pumpkins and kumeras brought from Gisborne by the ship Wainui is expected to reach marts in the city to-day.
