AIR TRANSPORT
POTENTIALITIES POSSESSED BY DOMINION PRIVATE ENTERPRISE NEEDED P.A. WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. Although New Zealand possesses great potentialities for the employment of air transport, particularly in regard to freight, the full development of such a service is not likely to comp about until private enterprise has a free rein. This is the opinion of Mr E. C. Bowyer, chief executive of the Society of British Aircraft Constructors, who was entertained in Wellington to-day by the local agents of British aircraft companies. It was not his intention to attack the nationalisation of airlines, Mr Bowyer said, but it seemed to him that a too-carefully planned economy in regard to air transport tended to inhibit a service that had to adaot itself to ever-changing conditions. The best use of aircraft, he suggested could be effected only after a certain amount of trial and error and such a course was not encouraged under State control of airport facilities.
