Maori Home is a cup horse in the making.

It looks as though Haughty is "over the hill ” so far as two-mile journeys are concerned.

The amount speculated on the Cup was £39,283. compared with £35,740 last year Lone Raider broke a hopple during the running of the Canterbury Handicap. Nyallo Scott did not finish on as well as expected in the Cup. Great Venture lost his chance in the Spring Handicap by breaking. Another Good Race

Blue Horizon trotted another good race to finish fourth in the Avon Handicap. If he keeps sound he will more than pav expenses this season •Inst Headed Off

The Dunedin-owned Belmont Hall paced a fine race in the Riccarton Stakes, and it was only in the last few strides that he was headed off by Congo Song. Unlucky

Fantom was trotting like a possible place-getter in the Avon Handicap when he was forced to a break which cost him a big stretch of ground. He did well to finish fifth. Checked

Betty Maxegin made her tally four wins on end when she won the Avon Handicap on Saturday. She has proved heiself one of the best trotters in commission, and she looks a bright prospect foi one of the Free-for-Alls. Piessmen Entertained At Addington on Saturday Mi J R. McKenzie entertained the sporting writers engaged at the meeting. " I have travelled widely,” said Mr McKenzie, " and nowhere in the world are galloping and trotting covered better than they are by. the press of the Dominion,” The pressmen were also the guests of Mr A. T. Kemble, the owner of Highland Fling, after that horse had won the Cup.
