ANGLO-ITALIAN TALKS
NEGOTIATIONS TOWARDS NEW TREATIES Rec. 7.20 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 31. Britain and Italy have agreed to negotiate a new treaty of commerce and navigation to take the place of the treaty of 1883. It has been officially announced that Mr Ernest Bevin and Count Sforza, after a general exchange of views in London, found themselves in close agreement in discussions of international affairs. They declared their intention to continue their collaboration for the recovery of Europe and the maintenance of international peace and they reached an agreement for the negotiation of Anglo-Italian cultural convention providing for cultural exchanges, including the interchange of teachers, students and research workers. It was decided to negotiate a joint civil aviation agreement. Britain agreed that Italian naval ves sels allocated to Britain under the Peace Treaty and the Four-Power Naval Protocol, with the exception of a few minor vessels, should be left with Italy under Article II of the Naval Protocol, which provides for certain categories of vessels to be scrapped or sunk.
