ATTITUDE CHANGED
GERMAN ECONOMIC COUNCIL ACCEPTANCE OF DISMANTLING PROGRAMME Rec. 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 30. The Frankfurt correspondent of The Times says that the resolution on dismantling passed yesterday by the German Economic Council in the name of the combined zones is unexpectedly moderate and amounts to virtual acceptance of the Allied programme. This apparent change of front can no doubt be associated with the discussions held on October 20 between the joint chairman of the Bipartite Control Office, General Sir Gordon Macready and General C. L. Adcock, and the Council’s working committee, who were urged to moderation. The Council’s resolution is mainly concerned with the manner in which dismantling is carried out. It recognises that it is Germany’s duty to repair the economic pillage of the Nazis so far as possible arid reiterates Germany’s will for peace, which involves the destruction of German war factories, but expresses regret at the dismantling of many plants in peaceful . production.
