RACING NEWS

By the Sporting Editor October 11 . Auckland R.C. October 11 .. .. .. S. Canterbury J.C. October 11 Masterton R.C. Jottings Those who supported Excellency for a place lost a little of their investments. Nominations for the Gore meeting are due to-day. Frances had every chance in the Federal Handicap but did not finish on as expected. She will be a better horse next time out. A Straggling Start Mr McNab’s despatch of the Novice Handicap was not one of his best, and Royal Anne got all the best of it. About half the field got away badly. Liked the Going As was expected, Boolamskee was suited by the going on Saturday and it was just in the last stride that Lord Dundonald got level with him. Boolamskee’s youthful rider showed promise but was not strong enough to get the last ounce out of him over the last bit. Good Performances Aganev and Grand Pal. the dead-heaters in the final event at Wingatui on Saturday, both put up good performances, as they were a long way back in the early running. They should be prominent at southern meetings. Alleged Crossing An inquiry was held into alleged crossing by W. F. Ellis, rider of Shadamai in the Juvenile Handicap, in which the horses Card Money and Baygundi fell. After hearing ence from Ellis, J. J. Dougherty, rider of Finigin, and H. Ford, rider of Baygundi, the Judicial Committee found that there was not sufficient evidence to convict Ellis of foul or careless riding, but he was severely reprimanded and warned to be more careful in the future in his race riding. A Big Improvement His race on the first day and the change in the going worked a big improvement in Lord Dundonald’s form, and after being well placed throughout the running of the Grandstand Handicap he got up to make a dead heat of it with Boolamskee. First Winning Mount Triumphal was suited by the going on Saturday and scored a popular win to give his diminutive rider, B. M. Southee, his first winning mount. Triumphal won the same race last year.
