LAND PURCHASES
SETTLEMENT OF RETURNED MEN FIGURES FOR AUGUST During August a further 5242 acres of land, subdivisible into 14 dairying units and 10 sheep farms, were purchased for the settlement of ex-service-men on the land. August also saw another 111 ex-servicemen assisted with rehabilitation loans to take over single-unit properties on their own account. Properties acquired by the Crown for settlement were located in the Auckland, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury and Southland land districts. During August, nine sections were balloted for among ex-servicemen. One was at the Komiri farm settlement, near Pukekohe, one at Omapere, near Hastings, two in the Ball road settlement, near Hawera, one at the Spring Creek settlement, near Methven, one at the Montalto settlement, near Ashburton, two at the Rothie settlement, near Fairfax, and one near Morton Mains, Southland.
