DINGY APPEARANCE

JUNIOR CHAMBER LOOKS AT DUNEDIN Concern at the dingy appearance of the city on the eve of the centenary was expressed at the recent meeting of the Dunedin Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr A. C. Kelly said that many business people were anxious to renovate their premises but, because of the scarcity of labour and materials, together with the difficulty of obtaining licences to undertake certain types of work, they were unable to do so. The Junior Chamber decided to investigate the position and to publicise the results of its inquiries. In view of the non-party political nature of the Junior Chamber it was decided to decline the invitation of the Citizens’ Association to submit the names of members for nomination as candidates at the forthcoming municipal elections.
