MOTORISTS’ BOOKLET
VISIT TO CENTRAL OTAGO PROJECT BY ASSOCIATION Several members of the executive committee of the Automobile Association, Otago, paid a visit to Central Otago at the week-end, their main object being to check information required for the issue of an information booklet which will be published later in the year, covering the Queenstown and Wanaka districts. “In these areas there is so much data of historical and geographical interest that it is a problem to know what to include and what to omit, said the secretary of the association, Mr P F. Harre, in commenting to the Daily Times yesterday on the result of the visit. Other than one or two books which had been published on the subject there was practically nothing that the tourist could obtain which would give him information on scenic walks, short car trips, and places of interest to visit. It was because of this need Mr Harre added, that the association was publishing the booklet for the benefit of its members. The hew publication will include a map of the district, showing lakes, mountain ranges, etc. It was originally intended to cover both the Queenstown and Wanaka districts in one booklet, but after inspection it was obvious that two separate booklets would have to be issued. The party visited the various routes and places of historical interest, and also inspected motor camps The members were also able to observe the progress of the signposting activities being undertaken by the association. An improvement in many of the Central Otago roads during the past few weeks was noticed. The Crown Range road is still free of snow and the surface is good. The rivers are lower than for many years past.
