Big Drop in Price of Rubber Causes Concern To Malayan Producers
Rec. 10 p.m.' SINGAPORE, May 26. Malayan economy has suffered its most serious setback since the liberation in the decline in the price of rubber from 43 Straits cents per lb to less than 30 cents last week-end, says the British-owned Straits Times. The United Planning Association of Malay has summoned an emergency meeting of producers and dealers at Singapore on May 28 to explore the situation and devise temporary measures to counteract the decline. The Straits Times says it is plain that production has caught up with consumption and urges that once a settlement is reached in Indonesia, the negotiation of a new inte>national rubber regulation scheme with Americans participating and with an American agreement on price levels.
