NEW ERA OPENING
BRITISH AND AMERICAN ZONES IN GERMANY
ESSEN, May 25. The Chancelor of the Duc'hy of Lancaster, Lord Pakenham, told, a press conference, including a large number of German journalists, that he had’a message “of candid friendship.” There was great friendliness in Britain especially towards the younger generations of Germans, but even Germany’s best friends begged the Germans to realise that the war was criminal. They looked to Germany to wipe out the memory of the war. Germany’s present weakness was her spiritual opportunity, i Lord Pakenham repeated his earlier announcement that a very important statement would be made on Tuesday. He said a new era was opening for the British and United States zones.
