LIBRARY SERVICE
EXTENSION TO SUBURBS FURTHER APPLICATIONS WELCOMED The proposal of the Library Committee to provide a library service for the Wakari district prompted Cr Connolly, M.P., to ask the chairman of the committee, Cr Barr, at the meeting of the City Council last night, if it was the policy to wait 12 months to see whether the service was a success before branching out further. If other organisations of a similar nature made applications, Cr Connolly asked, would the committee aprove of the new service? Cr Walls, M.P., congratulated the committee on the step taken, and assured the chairman that it could not have gone to a better place than Wakari for the people there would be sure to make a success of the service. “In the past there has been opposition to such a proposal,” Cr Barr said, “ and as a result the committee decided that it would be wise to give the service 12 months’ trial and then to reconsider it. In the meantime 1 the committee will be only too glad to consider each application as it comes in.”
