CANDIDATES FOR WOODVILLE Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, May 8. Trentham stables will be represented by three candidates. Hormuz, Flahuluk and Balcherrie in the principal handicap at Woodville on Saturday, and all three worked attractively to-day, although the times registered were not outstanding With W. J. Broughton in the saddle Hormuz may be the best prospect. He has not raced since the Wellington summei meeting, but he is well cond.tioned and has been working with all his former dash. Conditions were ideal at Trentham and the outside of the course oroper provided excellent going. With his trainer in the saddle, Hormuz strode freely over six furlongs in Imm 24 3-ssec. He ran the last half-mile in 53sec. and the last three in 42 3-ssec. He was wide out on the track and covered a lot of extra ground on the turns. Flahuluk (L. Harding) finished clear of Cornish Note (K. Ford) at the conclusion of a mile in lmin 47sec. the last half-mile in 52 2-ssec and the last three in 38 l-ssec Balcherrie (C. Reardon), was much too good for Theio Light fW. Lockyer) at the end of five furlongs in lmin 4 l-ssee, the last half-mile in 52sec and the last three furlongs in 39sec. If rain falls in the meantime. Balcherrie will nol race at Woodville. Lady Scholar (W Lockyer) was travelling better than Sir Boswell (R. Dixon) after running half a mile in 50sec, the last three in 37 4-ssec. Under a .good hold, Tutere (W. Bryce) and Cooraclare (C. Auckram) got to the end of five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec, the last half mile in 50 3-ssec. and the last three in 37 2-ssec. Alumnus (B McDonald) was restricted to three-quarter pace over seven furlongs No decision has been made whether he will fulfil his engagement at Woodville. The majority of R Belcher’s team are now spelling, the only active member being Casilda. If Master Fox progresses satisfactorily he is likely to be taken to Australia in the spring.
