PROBLEMS FOR BACKERS

Some Big Fields at Oamaru

DEMETRIUS LIKELY FAVOURITE

The feature event at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting to-morrow is the Juvenile Stakes, a race for two-year-olds, run over a mile and a-quarter. The field, as usual, include some exceptionally well-bred youngsters, but few of them have had racing experience, and it appears as if Demetrius and Mala will dominate the speculation. In the other events, backers will be set some difficult problems. Most of the fields are larger than is generally the case at an important meeting. Except for the looser class events, there is an abundance of form, most of it of recent date, but betting is likely to be widespread. Among those likely to be fancied are:— 11.15: Trial Handicap. —Glenwellyn, Abbeydorney, Worthy Dick. 12. 5: Innovation Handicap. —Acclamation, Mack Sure, Carissima. 12.50: President’s Handicap. —Courtly, Likely, Worthy Ace. 1.30: Oamaru Juvenile Stakes.— Demetrius, Mala, Congo Song. 2.10: PapaJtaio Handicap.— Highland Dale, Free . Fight, Calumet Queen. 2.55: Waikawa Handicap. —Kathleen’s Voyage, Port Bowen, Excalibur. 3.40: Enfield Handicap. —Maida Dillon, Checkmate, Dragoman. 4.30: Waitaki Handicap. —Lady Vi, Loyal Nelson, Horatio Nelson.
