NAVY LEAGUE NOTES
The Women’s Committee of the Otago branch will continue to send to Great Britain woollens for seamen and garments for their wives, widows and children. All garments sent in must be either new, or if made up from old material and garments must look fresh and new. Any worn garments can only be accepted if in perfect condition, cleaned or washed. Clean pieces of material suitable for children's garments and for patching sheets, pillow-slips, etc.,are very acceptable, and also oddments of wool for darning or for mothers to knit up into children’s socks. A letter has been received from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Mr Jordan, saying that some cases of woollens and garments had been received, and were being forwarded to the desired address; and also one from the Ministry of Food (with which very pleasant personal relations have now been established), intimating that the Ministry does its best to send foodstuffs, consigned by this branch, to our seamen and their dependants. The secretary also says, “ The splendid work the Navy League (Otago Branch) is doing is appreciated greatly, not only by those who receive a share, but by the people of this country as a whole.”
