AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE
MOSGIEL AS SITE SUPPORT OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES The site for the agricultural college,' which is to be set up in Otago, was discussed at the quarterly meeting of the School Committees’ Association of Otago last night. The president, Mr A. C. Dumble (Green Island), was in the chair, and there was a fair attendance of delegates. Mr D. J. Rutherford (Mosgiel) said a strong case could be presented for the college to be at Mosgiel. It was the most central of the towns which could be selected for an agricultural college. In support of Mr Rutherford, Mr R. Turner gave figures concerning the agricultural course, already in existence at the Mosgiel District High School, and which he claimed was of a high standard. Of the 68 boys attending the course, 40 travelled from Dunedin each day to take it. He moved that the association recommend to the Education Department that the agricultural college in Otago should be at Mosgiel. Mr W. Jacobsen, a member of the Otago Education Board, said that his board was sympathetic to the move. The Mosgiel School was doing an excellent job in training boys for agricultural work and also in propagating and supplying trees and shrubs to every school in Otago. The motion was carried.
