TRENTHAM TRAINING

BRUCE IN GOOD FORM Special to the Daily Times WELLINGTON, Mar. 20. Lady Christine and Bruce, two prominent candidates for the Manawatu meeting, performed satisfactory trials at Trentham to-day. It was not possible to time any of the work as a thick fog hung over the course from daybreak till 9 a.m., and reduced visibility to about 100 yards. The plough was used for what little galloping took place. Lady Christine was partnered by Night Ops over five furlongs. Night Ops Was kept up to her work over the concluding stages, but Lady Christine was going very easily under a good hold. For her Saturday s engagement, she will be ridden by W. J. Broughton.

Bruce, ridden by his trainer, covered a mile in company with Montosorrie. They kept together until about two furlongs from home, when Bruce drew away to a three lengths lead. Bruce worked attractively, and has held his condition well. The lack of a pacemaker may prejudice his prospects in the Awapuni Gold Cup. Beau Son finished well clear of Blithe Spirit at the end of five furlbngs. Blithe Spirit will not fulfil her Manawatu engagement. Connor will ride Beau Son in the Te Matai Hack Handicap. Alumnus was restricted to pace work, and unless rain falls to ease the track he will not race at Awapuni. R. Belcher has decided not to take Prince Coronach to Manawatu, and his team will comprise Master Fox, Lady Vite, Casilda and King of Quiz. They were given strong pace work to-day, and all are in good order.
